Hassle-free moving could be in your future, reducing the stress that naturally occurs during such a busy time in anybody’s life! Here are some tips in finding the best fit for your moving needs, whether moving within the same neighborhood, across town, or across the country!

  1. REFERRALS ARE GOLDEN: If your friends, family or real estate agent have had a great experience with a mover, this would be my first stop! Ask around for names of a few companies to get estimates from each. Ask the person referring you if there was any damage to any item, and if so, how it was handled. Accidents do happen, but its how they are resolved that is key.

  2. RESEARCH: Once you have your list of referred companies, conduct your own online research. You can make sure they are the “real deal” by visiting the American Moving and Storage Association’s website (moving.org) to see if they are a member. I always check reviews on sites such as Yelp, Angie’s List, and the Better Business Bureau to be sure there have been no registered complaints.

  3. ENSURE THEY ARE INSURED: In case there is any sort of accident, large or small, it is always recommended to check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration website (fmcs.dot.gov) to verify the company is licensed and insured.

  4. GATHERING ESTIMATES: Be sure to get a written estimate in person by scheduling an appt and having them come walk the house to see the quantity of items that will be moved. When you make the initial call, many companies may want to give you an idea of cost over the phone. Particularly with long-distance moves, the last thing you will want is to be hit with a bill twice as high as what you were initially expecting because the moving company did not see the items to be moved. If you are moving out of state, you will want to get a binding estimate that caps the cost you would be expected to pay.

I work with great moving companies here in San Diego and am happy to provide referrals to you. If you are thinking of buying or selling, give me a call at 619-944-2798! I look forward to helping you with the process! and making your move as easy as 1-2-3.
