As I sit in front of my computer and contemplate the topic to write about today, so many things come to mind…from the new procedures with buyer representation that is now in full force and redefining how we interact from agent to agent and from agent to client…to the state of the market currently as it appears to be in constant fluctuation…to what I bring to the table as a top producing agent with a top producing company and why you might want to choose to consult with me. But then I realized that I seem to be having the same conversation with many people about what is happening in the Atlantic region and inland with respect to all of the devastation relating to hurricanes, tornadoes and the like.
That got me thinking about the choices that we make to live where we live. While there has been quite a bit of migration from California to other states that are a bit more affordable, the overall quality of life we experience here in San Diego may just be worth every hard earned penny we pay. In exchange for that, we have more security in knowing that our home, neighborhood or city will not be completely obliterated due to weather. Yes, we have earthquake risk. That’s often detectable and seldom devastating in our region. Yes, we have risk of wildfire that is a seasonable risk, however with wildfire management in effect more than ever, it seems our risk here in SoCal is still minimal compared to what many other southern and eastern states are experiencing on a regular basis.
Here in Southern California, we are so incredibly fortunate. Yes, our (almost) eternal spring weather is, I dare say, better than most places. The mere fact that we don’t have to contend with the effects of extreme weather events, be it snow storms, hurricanes, or tornadoes seems to make it worth the “sunshine tax” we pay in the price of real estate. The security of knowing that the likelihood of annual recurring risk of finding ourselves without a home, a roof, a community due to these uncontrollable circumstances that are sure to come almost every year seems invaluable.
I recognize that there are many don’t have the luxury of continuing to live or to ever live in this Golden State of ours. For this reason, I choose to show gratitude for the fact that I was born and raised in such a spectacular region and that I am able to continue to live here. I choose to invest in my communities both with my time and with my hard-earned dollars. I choose to do everything I can to continue to improve the quality of life of the communities I serve and those I choose to live in.
